Intramuros is open year-round, but when you visit makes a real difference to your comfort and experience. Here is a practical breakdown by season.
Dry Season: November to May
This is generally the best time to visit Intramuros. The weather is cooler and drier from November to February, making the four-hour walking tour far more comfortable. Mornings are especially pleasant during these months.
From March to May, temperatures rise significantly — sometimes reaching 35°C or higher. If you visit during this period, wear light clothing, bring water, and consider booking the evening night tour to avoid the peak afternoon heat.
Wet Season: June to October
The rainy season brings afternoon showers and occasional typhoons. Tours are not automatically cancelled in light rain — all participants receive a complimentary raincoat. However, heavy rainfall or typhoon warnings may result in rescheduling for safety.
The benefit of the wet season: fewer crowds, lush greenery inside the fort, and cooler temperatures in the mornings.
Special Events and Festivals
- Rizal Day (December 30): Commemorations at Fort Santiago and Luneta Park. Historically significant and emotionally moving.
- Feast of San Agustin (May 6): Special observances at San Agustin Church.
- Intramuros Grand Slam (January): Annual festival inside the Walled City with historical re-enactments and cultural events.
Best Time of Day
For the daytime tour, the 8:00 AM start is ideal — the light is beautiful, temperatures are manageable, and Fort Santiago is quieter before the midday crowds arrive. The night tour (3:00 PM–7:00 PM) is a perfect option for those who want to avoid full midday sun.
